Webinar Summary

The ABCDEF Bundle serves as a comprehensive guide to optimizing sedation and mobility practices tailored to each patient’s needs. Even in exceptional cases in which patients cannot safely remain awake or mobile during their entire ICU stay, the ABCDEF Bundle is applicable to their care.

This webinar dives deep into how to choose sedation, and safely apply sedation vacations and early mobility in diverse ICUs, discussing the history of bedrest, the connection between the muscles and other systems, and the profound impact of muscular atrophy on critical illness. Discover the far-reaching consequences of immobility, including ICU-acquired weakness, diaphragm dysfunction on the rates of death, disability, tracheostomy, and ventilator duration.

Through compelling survivor stories, this webinar illuminates the life-long impact of ICU-acquired weakness on patient’s lives. Additionally, it highlights the latest research on the safety, feasibility, and efficacy of early mobility, explaining the science behind its transformative impact on patient safety and survival at every level.

Objectives

  • Provide nurses understanding of patient perspective and evidence regarding sedation, delirium, and immobility in the ICU.
  • Equip nurses with knowledge needed to practice evidence-based early mobility practices.
  • Empower critical care nurses to transform patient outcomes through mastery and leadership of the ABCDEF bundle.
