Webinar Summary

Mass casualty situations can occur at any time, and as trauma centers become overwhelmed, the injured may be directed to non-trauma facilities for treatment. As a nurse, are you prepared to care for these unexpected trauma patients?

Our three-part Trauma Care webinar series is designed to provide progressive and critical care nurses with the essential information needed to safely treat post-resuscitation trauma patients — even if you don’t routinely care for them. This second webinar in the series uses a body systems approach to to educate ICU and PCU nurses about the basics of trauma care:

  • Focus on the upper body: Traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and upper torso trauma injuries
  • Body systems-based assessment, clinical management considerations, complications and associated mitigation strategies

Viewer questions are welcome and will be answered by the presenter in a Q&A document added to the Resources section of this webpage.

Objectives

  • Identify body systems assessment for traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries and upper torso trauma injuries.
  • List the clinical management considerations for traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries and upper torso trauma injuries.
  • Recognize body systems complications and mitigation strategies for traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries, and upper torso trauma injuries.
