Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Euglycemic DKA is a life-threatening endocrine emergency often under-recognized due to the unusual presentation without severe hyperglycemia. Delays in identifying and initiating treatment for this condition can lead to severe metabolic acidosis. This advanced session employs case studies to provide an in-depth pharmacologic review of the most likely causative agents of euglycemic DKA, with tips on differential diagnoses and treatment pathways to stabilize this endocrine emergency. Pharmacology content = 40%.

Objectives

  • Identify risk factors which contribute to the development of euglycemic DKA, including pharmacologic review of SGLT2 inhibitors.
  • List differential diagnosis and confounders of euglycemic DKA.
  • Illustrate the pharmacologic management of euglycemic DKA using case studies.
