Project Overview:
Based on the unit’s HWEAT scores, the CSI team chose to focus on improving Meaningful Recognition in the unit. To do this we created the Say it Out Loud bulletin board. The board was placed in a central location for employees to have easy access to post, read and acknowledge the good deeds done daily in the clinic as a form of peer-to-peer recognition. The shoutout did not have to be an outstanding or extremally amazing act; it can simply be a shoutout for helping when someone is overwhelmed. The shoutouts were read in huddles, and employees received recognition certificates.
Another way we wanted to improve Meaningful Recognition was to send each team member to the Team Lead meeting. Team lead attendance was voted on by those with the same title (i.e.; RN or CMA) to represent them in the regular meeting with administration. In the Primary Care Medical Home meetings with administration, the team lead presents the concerns, ideas or education requests of their peers and brings the results back to the front-line staff. In Clinical Operations meetings, team members attending the meetings collect information on behind-the-scenes recommendations and processes that keep clinics operating to required standards. They share the information with their peers in morning huddles.
