Veronica Gurule, MSN, BSN, RN, CCRN, serves a three-year term as a director on the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) board of directors from July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2024.

Gurule is associate director of critical care, North Texas Division (HCA Healthcare). As manager of the Cardiovascular ICU at Medical City Fort Worth in 2020-2021, she obtained top decile metrics in patient experience and decreased turnover from 26% to 13%. In 2020, she increased certification rates in the CVICU from 38% to 60%, and the cardiac program obtained an STS 3-star rating in 2021

Gurule is an experienced pediatric intensive care/cardiac intensive care nurse and adult cardiac intensive care leader who is focused on ensuring exemplary patient care. She is driven by best practices, leading to optimal patient outcomes and alignment of organizational strategic goals. She was a charge nurse in the pediatric ICU at Methodist Children's Hospital, where she served as facility and system leader for the National Children's Cereal Drive (2016-2019), which led to 283,026 servings of cereal being donated to the San Antonio community.

Her AACN volunteer activities include the AACN – AACN Certification Corporation Nominating Committee (July 2019-June 2020) and serving as a writer and a reviewer for the CCRN exam in 2018. A member of the Greater Fort Worth and Dallas County chapters, she was a podium presenter on "Preventing Nurse Burnout" at San Antonio Hot Topics, a conference hosted by the San Antonio Chapter. In her spare time, she loves to travel and attend college football games, supporting The Ohio State University. She was also a competitive roller skater until she was 19!

Gurule earned a Master of Science in nursing leadership and management and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, both at Western Governors University, Utah.
