Joseph Falise, MSN, RN, CCRN-CSC, serves a three-year term as a director on the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) board of directors from July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2024. He also serves a concurrent one-year term on the AACN Certification Corporation board from July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024.
Falise is director of nursing for critical care and progressive care at University of Miami Hospital and Clinics in Miami. He has assisted with the COVID-19 response, including the creation of ICU space in a non-traditional ICU setting. He was previously director of the professional development department for two years.
Falise's career began in cardiovascular surgical nursing and has involved all types of ICU nursing, including bedside, clinical education and now a return to cardiovascular. He spent a few years working per diem as a critical care transport nurse for an international air ambulance company, transporting patients mostly to and from the Caribbean and Central/South America, plus a few European transports.
An AACN member since 1998 and an ambassador since 2017, Falise was a member of the AACN Nominating Committee (2018-2019), a content reviewer for Fundamental Skills for Nurse Managers (2019), AACN liaison to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists work group on “Adult IV Concentration Standardization” (2016-2017) and president of AACN's Greater Miami Area Chapter (2015-2016).
Additional affiliations include membership in the Society of Critical Care Medicine and Sigma. He has received several awards, including the “U” Shine Award from University of Miami Hospital in 2018, 2016 and 2015.
Falise earned a Master of Science in Nursing from University of Central Florida, Orlando, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Miami Dade College of Nursing, Miami.
