Dawn Carpenter, DNP, ACNP-BC, CCRN, FAANP, serves a three-year term as a director on the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) board of directors from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2027.

A third-generation nurse following in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother, Carpenter is a nurse practitioner at Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, Pennsylvania, and an associate professor at UMass Chan Medical School, Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing. She was inducted into the American Association of Nurse Practitioners as a fellow in 2023. She is the editor and author of four books, including the forthcoming “Fast Facts for Trauma Nurses,” first edition.

Her volunteer work with AACN includes writing certification items and test development for the ACNPC-AG exam. She has also served on the AACN - AACN Certification Corporation Nominating Committee and API Program Planning Committee.

Additional affiliations include membership in the Society of Critical Care Medicine, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and American Nurses Association.

Carpenter earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice with a subspecialty in education at UMass. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing as an adult critical care clinical nurse specialist at Syracuse University, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Mansfield University in Mansfield, Pennsylvania.

In her free time, Carpenter is learning how to fly-fish!
